Arab Memorial (Memorial Árabe)

The Arab Memorial is a cultural landmark honoring Arab and Middle Eastern heritage. In Curitiba, its main purpose is to bring together memory, reading, and visual arts in a setting that also celebrates the presence of Syrian and Lebanese immigrants connected to the city. Located in Praça Gibran Khalil Gibran, the memorial links a tribute to the writer with a broader homage to the Arab communities that helped shape local history. That symbolic dimension is clearly reflected in the design of the site, which brings together a monument, library, and art collection in a compact space with a strong cultural identity. The architecture is one of the visit’s most distinctive features. The cube-shaped building, with just over 140 square meters, draws on Moorish design through its dome, columns, arches, and stained glass. Set above a reflecting pool, the structure has a striking visual presence, balancing restrained lines with ornamental elements associated with the Arab world. Inside, the specialized library adds depth to the experience. Focused on Arab culture and with room for 10,000 volumes, it gives the memorial a research and reference dimension that goes beyond architectural appreciation. A sculpture of Gibran Khalil Gibran on a marble pedestal further strengthens the connection between literature, thought, and cultural identity, making the space a place of intellectual reflection as well. The memorial also includes an art gallery with works by Arab artists and a café, expanding the visit beyond the books. The result is a brief but layered experience: the reflecting pool outside, the architectural language, the presence of Gibran, and the meeting of library and visual arts make this one of the city’s most distinctive cultural attractions.
